Oral Reading

This year it was very competitive in LZ13. On Monday Kush represented LZ13 at our MLC assembly reading a passage about Geronimo Stilton. You did an awesome job, Kush!

Science in a Van

Today Emily and Alan brought their Science in a Van roadshow to school. We got to learn about the three laws of force found by Isacc Newton. Force is caused by pushing and pulling. We watched Alan put Steve (the chicken) on the rocket to demonstrate the speed of a rocket if force is applied behind him. If we make Steve smaller the rocket will go faster. Alan and Emily showed us lots of cool experiments related to air resistance, friction and force. What a fun way to start our science activities in class. 

 

Lifesaving

On Wednesday we went for our last swimming session at Otara aquatic centre. We learnt to rescue each other, to huddle when we are cold, how to use a board and a noodle to help someone in trouble. We needed to wear our lifejackets tight so that we did not fall out of them. We ended with a big domino splash in the pool started by our instructor. We had a lot of fun!

Incy Wincy spider

Yesterday at 9.45am Incy Wincy spider, small like a ball, tried to climb the mighty blue water spout. He tried to climb it because that is where he had made his warm comfy, bigger than a glue stick, web. But then a mighty storm came rushing down and then washed Incy Wincy spider out. Then a warming light shone above from the sky and dried up all the water so the spider can climb up the mighty big water spout again.

Humpty Dumpty

Yesterday afternoon Mr Humpty Dumpty had a bad fall. The accident was a 2.22pm just at that time Mr Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall by Mr Wind, also named Horrible Bob. Mr Bob was actually nice and friendly but today he was late, seen this morning in a bad temper. Maybe that is why he blew Humpty off. After the accident the ken ordered the men and horses to help Mr Humpty. Mr Bob was gone. The police came and searched for Mr Bob. At 2.45 in the morning they finally saw Mr Bob. He was still in a bad temper!

Jack and Jill

One morning at approximately 8.30, one brother and sister called Jack Smith and Jill Smith went to get some water from the well. When they were going up the hill a burglar pushed past Jack and Jack fell down the hill and into a pond. “Oh, my heavens,” Jill said, “my brother has fallen into a pond. This is all your fault burglar.” And the burglar ran away. Jack saw a wasp coming his way and he ducked into the water. His sister came running and fell into the pond too. She picked him up and took him to hospital. The doctor said he will be fine, just give him these pills for approximately five days. “Thank you,” said Jill and Jack was so happy.

Humpty Dumpty

One morning at 9.30am Harold Humpty, known as Humpty Dumpty was a victim of a crime. Nobody suspected the push from his wall. Harold Dumpty has a severe injury and is in hospital with a broken head. We had an interview with Harold. In his own words “I heard foot steps that morning and a saw a kind of shadow. I personally think it was Puss in Boots.” But nobody knows who it was, it is all a mystery. I will figure it out and until then we pray for poor Humpty.

Incy wincy spider

Yesterday at three o'clock Incy Wincy spider wanted to climb up the water spout. When he climbed up a sudden down pour of rain came and made him fall. That made him very angry and grumpy because he had climbed up very high. Then the beautiful sun came dried the water spout. Then Incy Wincy spider climbed the water spout again.

Humpty Dumpty

One evening, Leo Dumpty was sitting down on a wall thinking about being a person when suddenly BUMP! He fell down on the concrete floor. He got pushed by the wind. His parents were crying so loud that it was like a crowd of elephants. The King's horses and King's men couldn't put Leo Dumpty together. They tried glue, concrete and sellotape but it was no use. He was just a frying egg. This man came and fixed Leo Dumpty by putting some super glue and he came back to normal. Now Leo Dumpty has decided, he is not going to sit on the wall anymore. Although he did it again, that silly old Leo Dumpty.

How to use a wide mouthed puppet.

Last week we learnt how to use a wide mouthed puppet. Here are some of our explanations.

Today I am going to tell you about a wide mouthed puppet and how you are supposed to use it. 
When people use it they sometimes do it the wrong way by moving the top jaw instead of the bottom one. The first thing you need to do is to make a puppet out of your hand. Then move your thumb up and down. You will need to practice. When you are confident at it, you make a puppet out of a sock. You can decorate it any way you want. You put your hand in the sock and let the sock do all the talking. 
You can use it in a puppet show in your class.

A puppet is a character that is for a show. It looks like a characters face. 
You have to put your hand up through the hole in the puppet. The thumb goes on the bottom and your four fingers on the top. Then you use your thumb to move the puppets mouth up and down. This will make him move his mouth to talk. 
Puppets are funny and cheeky toys. They are fun.

My puppets name is Cindy. It is a girl. It has long hair. It wears a dress. The colour of her hair is black and her dress is violet. She lives in Puppetier world. 
This is how my puppet works; you put your hand through a hole and once you have put your hand in, you have to keep your four fingers together and do not move them. Your thumb is the only finger that is suppose to move.
