Senses

This week we have been writing using our five senses of touch, hear, see, taste and smell.  Hope you enjoy reading them.
One day at home I heard a noise coming from the window. I looked and checked outside and it was snowing. Then I looked at the window and it had stopped. When I saw it I could not believe that it was snowy outside. Looking outside I said to myself everything is white outside. So I slid the window and went outside and played. It was cool outside. I like snow time! By Joel.

One morning I woke up and when I looked out the window, it was white. Then I went to my cupboard and took my jacket out and then I went outside. When I felt the snow it was so soft, like a puppy. Then I went to the pond. It was ready for ice skating. Then the snow smelt like fresh winter snow. By Astha.

Yesterday it was snowy, I was looking out of the window. I could see lots of stuff. I saw a frozen lake and all the fish were frozen. I saw lots of trees had frozen like ice. It was like a pack of Christmas trees. It was beautiful so I went outside to see more things. When I opened the door I put my leg out in the snow. It was like standing in lots of candy floss. It also felt like you were going to fall in but under the ice was a road. Then instead of building a sand monster I built a snow monster. I started to giggle. I could smell lots of things. I could smell a pond of water. When I looked at my house I could not see it at all. All I could see was a big arrow made of snow. I thought it was under that big pile but I couldn't find the door. So I started to dig, ahhhhhh! There it was. It was very cold. I thought I would just see it from inside so I went inside. While I came in I could smell and feel the cold breeze on my face. By Kayan.

In winter I was sitting and looking out the window and I saw pine trees and smelt water. So I went to the kitchen to drink my water and there was no water. I went back to the window and I felt some snow on my nose but it was only me in a daze. By Brooklyn.

In the morning of a winter day, I woke up. I gasped, white! I peeked through the window and saw white, everything was white! I saw snow and thousands of trees with no leaves on them. I saw a pool tat was iced, completely iced! It was as cold as an ice block. I saw the sky was white. Then I went to eat my breakfast. It was a cup of hot chocolate, a piece of sandwich, and yummy, delicious piece of chocolate cake. It was delicious! By Justin.

One Sunday morning I woke up to the sound of snow. I went to the window and all I could see was snow! I went outside and I saw that our pool was frozen. I started making an igloo. I also made two snowmen to protect my igloo. The snow was so cold! By Ronak.

Last year I went to the swimming pool. I had a broken leg so I was just watching. I was so hungry, so I had lunch in the cafe. I had chips, cola and a chicken sandwich. I was bored so I played games with my friends, after that we watched people swimming and there was a big statue of a person. People were drowning. I could smell the chlorine but I did not like it. Five minutes before my friends, my family and I left. They went to the pool that people were drowning in. I had to warn them but it was too late! I shouted so loudly “do not go to that pool, you will drown!” I shouted so loudly that the people in the whole centre heard, even outside. When I left I thought about what I did and I think I was a hero and I hope people thought that too. By Aulia.

Yesterday I went to the pools with my family. I could not swim because I had a broken leg. When I first went I could smell the chlorine so I went up to the cafe. When I go to the cafe I could hear a blender blending hot chocolate. I could also hear water splashing down at the pool. I saw some one go down the water slide on a tyre. I could still smell the chlorine but a few minutes later I got use to it. When I turned o the diving board I saw a man jumping. His swimming togs were dotty with stripes. It was green, red, black and blue. For lunch I had a chicken sandwich and some cake. After that my mum called me to come down because it was time to go home. I had a really fun time at the pools but next time I go I want to swim. By Sakada.

One afternoon I went to the swimming pools. I had a broken leg so I sat on the side of the pools. I smelt chlorine. I also smelt food. So I went to the cafe without anyone knowing. I had a muffin and a scone. It was so yum! I also had a hot chocolate. I waited and waited until wheeee-yoooo wheeee-yoooo “Some one has drowned”, and it said please evacuate the building. I ran and ran until I got to the assembly point. By Rufaro.

Community helpers

We have learnt to use Bubbl.us to help us brainstorm our thoughts around who helps us in our community.  Here are some of our examples.

Birkenhead

This Tuesday, we went by bus to the Birkenhead Leisure Centre. We had three activities. They were archery, rock climbing and ABL: adventure based learning. Our instructors were Jacques, Keri and Bill, they helped us attempt things beyond our comfort zone, work as a team and communicate with others. Here are some of our photos showing how much fun we had. A BIG thank you to all the parents that helped out with our trip.

Community gardens

This week we read an article on how a piece of land was being turned into a community garden which was to be looked after by MIT students. We designed our own gardens and talked about which vegetables and fruit would be best suited in our gardens.

Descriptive writing

On the amazing playground I have found an object that is green and purple with some black on it. If you stand at the bottom you will find that your feet will turn. There are handle bards that are green and purple. It is about 1.5 metres high. I call it the magic handle. I like to play on it. A lot of people say it is not famous around the school, but I think it is.
By Isabella.

The equipment I am describing is on the playground. It is green, blue, black and grey. It looks like a spiders web but it is ropes and is not sticky because you would get stuck. It has thirteen ropes. In the middle there is a circle and that part is green. The ropes are light blue and dark blue. They are mixed together like licorice.
By Caleb

The name is a Tornado. It is called that because it spins. People say that this is the schools favourite. A lot of people go on the tornado so we have to have turns. There are ropes so the people can not fall out. People can hold the ropes on the outside. The ropes are blue and white.
