End of year Celebration

We had our Awards Assembly on Friday. Justin received the Academic Excellence award for LZ13 and Sakada the Personal Excellence award for LZ13. We also had three lucky children who were named Deputy House Captains for 2013. Ronit for Hillary, Piper for Batten and Brooklyn for Walker house. Well done to you all.

ACE Term 4

We had our end of term ACE assembly on Friday. We had lots of children showcasing their learning. In LZ13 we had:

Athletics Day

On Friday we had our school Athletics Day. All of us tried our very best. Leo got second and Brooklyn got third in the finals of the sprints. In the year 4 class relays we came first. Well done Astha, Olivia, Brooklyn, Kaitlyn, Justin, Keathan, Leo and Rufaro who were part of that relay team.

MHP's got Talent

On Thursday the school held its second talent show. Riki and his brother, Sofia, Ronit, Aryan and Colin all made it through to the finals. They all did an awesome job showcasing their dancing or singing. Riki and his brother (Bruno and Mars) won the middle school section with their song, Grenade. Fantastic effort boys!

Our new buddies

This term we are going to be buddies with a person in Room 4 at Dargaville Primary. They are learning about communication and have started by writing letters to us. On Tuesday the envelope arrived. We were very excited to get our very own letter addressed to each of us. This week we have written our replies to our buddies ready for our teacher to post next week. We look forward to hearing back from our buddies.

Grandparents Day

On Friday we had our annual Grandparents day. It started with a lovely assembly in the hall with items containing dance, singing and art. Our grandparents then came back to our classes and we took turns to sketch each other. We ended the day with a picnic on the courtyard. It was fabulous to see all our grandparents at school with us.

ICAS Maths

What a day for celebrations, not only did we have Helen who got the Excellence award this week and the children from choir getting their certificates but our ICAS Maths certificates came too.  We had lots to celebrate; Ivan and Justin got a High Distinction, Sakada and Ronak got Distinctions, Kush and Ru-qing got Credits, Kayan and Zaina got Participation awards. Wow!

ACE assembly

On the last day of term 3 we had the ACE assembly where lots of groups got to showcase their learning. We had quite a few from our class performing during the assembly.  They were awesome!
We had:
  • Ronit dancing from Dance Jam
  • Leo, Kayan and Kush showing what they learnt in Kempo Martial Arts
  • Dorothy, Sofia, Isabella, Olivia, and Kaitlyn showing their line dancing skills
  • Keathan and Joel performing a Samoan dance
  • Astha participating in her Bollywood dance




Kids for Kids

On September 19th some of us attended the Kids for Kids show in Manukau. We got to rehearse and perform many songs alongside Suzanne Prentice. It was a really cool show singing lots of songs such as Happy days, Muppet theme, Candyman, Shout, Talk to the animals and more. We really liked it when the Fox and Alligator came out to dance in the last song, they were really funny.

Variety Show

Today we had our dress rehearsal for the variety show tonight. We are performing the Rakau to E-papa Wairari. We have been learning our routine all term and tonight we get to show it off to our parents. Hopefully we do not drop any of them!

Raincoat and Gumboot Mufti

Today we had a Raincoat and Mufti day. We had Max the pukeko come to our Travelwise assembly to help us say goodbye to winter and welcome spring. We all looked cool in our bright colours, raincoats and gummies.



Speeches

This term LZ13 had to prepare a speech on a famous inventor or inventions. We had speeches about Alexander Graham Bell, The Wright Brothers, Telephones, TV, Steve Jobs and loads more. It was really hard choosing a representative from our classroom for the MLC speech assembly. This year Olivia was the MC and Rufaro presented his speech on Telephones & Alexander Graham Bell. You did a fantastic job both of you.

Cricket

On Thursday we had a Cricket session with Papatoetoe Cricket. We played knock the castle, where we had to knock the wicket over in the centre. The two teams drew 6-6. Then we played a different version of non stop cricket. Both the pink team and the orange team drew 61 - 61.  We had an awesome time.

Be sustainable with energy!

On Monday Tracy from Vector Energy came to speak to the year 4s about being sustainable and electricity. We learnt about the different energy sources (Hydro, wind, gas and geothermal) and how much electricity we use in our homes and school. Tracy also taught us how to safe electricity and energy at home by turning off lights when we do not need them, stopping dripping taps and not leaving the fridge open too long.

Cross Country 2012

LZ13 had a successful cross country this year with ten of our class making it into the top ten of their races. The year 4s had to run 1.25km this year.

These are LZ13s top results: 
In the year 4 boys; Ivan 2nd, Keathan 3rd, Riki 4th, Justin 6th, Rufaro 7th and Leo 8th. 
In the year 4 girls; Brooklyn 1st, Kaitlyn 3rd, Isabella 4th and Olivia 6th.

Maori Week Celebration Assembly.

On Friday we celebrated our learning from Maori Language week. Mrs Hishey has taught us how to use the Rakau sticks this term. We performed E-papa with Rakau sticks, To ringa ke roto (Hokey Tokey) and Kapokapo ringaringa (bird dance) to the school at the assembly. Some of the boys were also part of the school Kapahaka group who perfomed the Haka.

Motat

On Friday 10th August three classes went to Motat. We had a session with Anna about Electricity where we learnt about static electricity, made circuits, and explored other types of electricity and energy. We also went on a trail around Motat looking at the past and present along with inventions and how they have helped us. The highlight of our trip was our tram ride. It was really cool.


Sam RB

On Thursday Sam RB came to our school.  She wrote the song Stand Tall for the Olympics. She came to hear us sing it in singing. We all sounded wonderful.

Glogging

Over the last few weeks we have been reading and writing about Flat Stanley. We wrote about what it would be like to be flat. Then we decided to take Stanley around New Zealand and the world. We researched the places we would like to take him and then wrote journal entries about Stanley visiting those chosen places.
We learnt how to make a glog and used Glogster Edu to publish our journal entries to share on our wiki pages.

WHAT A WEEK!

We have had an exciting week this week.

The results from the ICAS Computer skills exam are back. In our class we had a Distinction, a Credit and some participation awards.  Congrats to Kush for the Distinction and Justin for the Credit award.

Another event this week was the MathEx competition held at the Junior College. The year 4 team which consisted of Justin, Ivan, Aryan and Jasper (from LZ21). They were superb. They came third equal with the Year 6 MHP team in the Year 6 Mathex competition.  Awesome job boys!

Kung Fu Panda

On Tuesday we had Erin from Footsteps Dance company come in and teach us some moves. We learnt a routine to the theme song on Kung Fu panda. It was awesome and we had a lot of fun.
